Towson University will begin offering a new master of science degree in supply chain management, one of the country's fastest growing business fields. The new degree program is supported by a grant from the state's higher education commission, and the program is designed for professionals who plan, implement, and control the flow of materials, information, and services in industry and government.
The goal is to teach students how to assist organizations in improving the efficiency of their supply chains in order to gain cost savings. Coursework will focus on the supply chain from raw materials through finished products, up to distribution, logistics, operations, and purchasing. Students will earn a post-baccalauretate certificate upon completion of the first five courses. The course work will focus on supply chain management in the information technology, transportation, health care and telecommunications industries.

Education online is growing by 20% annually, which is marking a boom time for colleges and universities offering distance education. Almost four million students are benefiting from U.S. colleges and universities imparting education online, says the Distance Education and Training Council.
With students not having time on hand to attend regular classes in colleges and universities due to work or other commitments, education online is offering an apt solution to the knowledge thirsty. The University Of Phoenix boasts of an online student body of 400,000, while Kaplan University, regarded as the second largest online university, possesses a student body of 90,000 that is still growing.
Education online is becoming a favoured option for young parents and working students, as they simply have to go home, turn on the computer and gain knowledge at a time that best suits them. Education online also helps students save time and money spent on travel and stationery.
