A master science degree in healthcare quality and safety management will be offered at the Thomas Jefferson University School of Population Health in Philadelphia. The program is a being offered in conjunction with the American College of Physician Executives , and interested students are expected to have first completed 125 hours of ACPE courses, as well as nine Jefferson online courses before finishing the program with a project at the ACPE Fall Institute.

It is estimated that the work load from the classes will be 8 to 12 hours a week. The school dean at Jefferson noted that the time was right for such a program due to the current political push for better healthcare quality, and also because there are new tools that have made quality easier to measure than before. The notion of measurement and accountability in the healthcare sector are moving front and center, and this will be the focus of the new program.

Our country thrives off crime drama television shows. We have CSI, Law & Order, and even a Crime TV channel. While these shows may be a dramatic interpretation of what actually happens in the world of law enforcement, a lot of what we see is some of the actual work performed by forensic scientists.

Forensic science is a versatile career field with a variety of opportunities, and you can obtain this degree through any online college. In this field, you have a great opportunity to get great hands on experience while applying critical thinking skills to solve crime scene investigations. One unique part of studying for a degree in forensics is that any other type of coursework can be paired with this degree to create a specialty field.

Criminalistics is what we see most commonly on TV. In this field, you do the examination of fingerprints (specialization in fingerprints is called dactyloscopy), footprints, bullet holes, and more. If you're more computer savvy, you may consider computational forensics, which is a growing field as technology continues to improve each day. Digital forensics, video forensics and even mobile phone forensics are also rapidly advancing fields that use technology. Those interested in biology or anatomy have a few options in forensics, such as serology, the study of bodily fluids; toxicology, the study of drugs and chemicals in the body; geology, which finds evidence through dirt or soil; or even forensic pathology, which uses medical evidence to determine cause and time of death in victims.

Forensics is not limited to solving crimes; it is also actively used in civil matters as well. There are legal and financial sectors of forensics, such as accounting forensics and forensic linguistics, which carefully analyzes legal practices and law enforcement, as well as violations in policies. Questioned document examination, also called forensic document examination, is the analysis of documents and how they affect particular policies. Part of this is the study of handwriting as it pertains to identifying authors of investigated documents.

By obtaining a degree in forensic science, you have a whole plethora of options for you to pursue. If you are ready for a demanding field that requires hands-on work and critical thinking, forensic science may be perfect for you.
